Simon Ponnusamy, founder and designer of AM Eyewear, noticed a gap in the sunnies market for stylish shades that complied with Australian standards back when he was 16 and kicking around in his vintage finds. Years later, he started learning about the optical market and developed products he thought would appeal to the style-savvy youth crowd. It worked. Each new collection is reflective of Ponnusamy’s many sources of inspiration. From his fast-paced life travelling and mingling with some of the world’s biggest rock stars to his mother’s collection of vintage sunglasses and photos from her days in the fashion industry.  AM sunglasses feature styles from the early 50s to the late 70s. Large, oversized sunglasses are popular in the AM Eyewear line as well as vintage styles with hand-painted detailing. AM Eyewear’s retro sunglass styles reinvent the hype these sunglasses would have received when they were first released.
